Claim by Sierra Cartwright

Hi, Pembroke! Thanks for hosting me at your site. Congratulations on your own writing success! Non-fiction and fiction? Wow. I appreciate your opening your blog to give other author's a voice.

I enjoyed the article you wrote for Emma Lai's blog. It's fun to learn about other writers' rituals.

Again, thanks for having me. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

About Sierra Cartwright:

INTERNATIONAL BEST SELLING AUTHOR

Sierra Cartwright was born in Manchester, England and raised in Colorado. Moving to the United States was nothing like her young imagination had concocted. She expected to see cowboys everywhere, and a covered wagon or two would have been really nice!

Now she writes novels as untamed as the Rockies, while spending a fair amount of time in Texas…where, it turns out, the Texas Rangers law officers don't ride horses to roundup the bad guys, or have six-shooters strapped to their sexy thighs as she expected. And she's yet to see a poster that says Wanted: Dead or Alive. (Can you tell she has a vivid imagination?)

Sierra wrote her first book at age nine, a fanfic episode of Star Trek when she was fifteen, and she completed her first romance novel at nineteen. She actually kissed William Shatner (Captain Kirk) on the cheek once, and she says that's her biggest claim to fame. Her adventure through the turmoil of trust has taught her that love is the greatest gift. Like her image of the Old West, her writing is untamed, and nothing is off-limits.

She invites you to take a walk on the wild side…but only if you dare.

You can find Sierra on Facebook, follow her on twitter and check out her page on Tumblr.

It takes all her resolve to resist the devilishly handsome Dominant. After all, the whole world knows of his legendary reputation with women. Every feminine instinct warns that this man will demand more than she can offer.

But she hasn’t counted on Kennedy’s determination to claim her and prove that love is worth any risk.

Food, Glorious Food!

Sierra Cartwright

An unusual thing happens to me when I write. My eating habits change.

There’s only one thing that is constant: coffee. Two to three cups per day, with organic half and half.

Beyond that… The closer I get to a deadline, the more likely I am to reach for licorice. I normally don’t eat it at any other time. I’m not sure what it has in it, but when the bags of strawberry Twizzlers pile up in the grocery cart, it’s fairly certain a deadline is looming.

As I’m about a week away from finishing a book, I’ll go to one type of food. With Claim, my latest book from Totally Bound, it was pepperoni pizza. Seriously. I ordered it from Mario’s, went and picked it up, brought it back and ate it for two meals a day.

Another time, I made a gigantic lasagna, and I had it for lunch and dinner.

I think that, because I’m so focused on the book, I don’t want to spend time thinking about food or cooking. I want to stay in the zone and put all my energy into my characters.

When I’m just starting a book, I would never eat pizza for breakfast. And I sure wouldn’t eat it cold. But, yep, that last week, open box, grab a slice and nosh down.

But the first thing I do after I finish a book and get a good night’s sleep? Yep, head for a restaurant where I can have something complex and delicious…and because I just finished writing about Boston and because it’s a cold and damp day, maybe I’ll go find some clam chowder. Anyone in?'

Enter Totally Bound’s competition for the chance to win a copy of Claim and two books from Sierra’s backlist:

The Necromancer’s Betrayal by Mimi Sebastian‏

Mimi Sebastian raised herself on books and the strange and unusual, and an unhealthy dose of comics and movies. When a career as a punk guitarist failed to materialize, she completed her degree in urban planning, spent two years in the Ivory Coast with the Peace Corps, and another three years in Brazil. By day, she debates the merits of transport oriented development, by night she writes about necromancers and pirates. She’s convinced she could live off coffee, ice cream, and comic books, but is sure only one of those is good for her health.

She's a member of Romance Writers of America and the Fantasy, Futuristic and Paranormal chapter of RWA. A transplant from the beaches of Florida, Mimi now wanders the desert in Phoenix, AZ, and attempts to balance writing with a day career, fantastic family, and household diva: her Amazon parrot.

Her powers have been hobbled. Her enemies are growing stronger.

Old loves challenge her. And her worst betrayer may be herself.

Necromancer Ruby Montagne is battling for her life in the realm of demons. Unfairly branded for the death of a fellow necromancer, she’s got to prove her innocence without the full use of her magic. And the real culprit is still on the loose.

While someone is stalking her friends among the witches, Ruby searches for answers inside the dark intrigues of both the demon and necromancer worlds. Ruby must confront this new, sinister threat while reconciling her feelings for her former lover, a demon warrior. Only it’s difficult . . . because a sexy vampire is making it clear that he’d like to be a lot more than just friends.

The competition for Ruby’s trust heats up as the enemy pushes her toward a dark side that could threaten the entire realm. Yet what can Ruby do when she’s not even sure what she is? With the fabric separating the realms at stake, she must decide whom to trust. But will the ultimate betrayal be her own?

Christmas in Dogtown by Suzanne Johnson‏

Suzanne Johnson writes urban fantasy and paranormal romance (under the name Susannah Sandlin) from Auburn, Alabama, on top of a career in educational publishing that has thus far spanned five states and six universities—including both Alabama and Auburn, which makes her bilingual. She grew up in Winfield, Alabama, halfway between the Bear Bryant Museum and Elvis' birthplace, but was also a longtime resident of New Orleans, so she has a highly refined sense of the absurd and an ingrained love of SEC football, cheap Mardi Gras trinkets, and fried gator on a stick. She’s the author of the Sentinels of New Orleans urban fantasy series and, as Susannah Sandlin, the Penton Legacy paranormal romance series.

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
A wonderful month long trip to Paris with my best friend from high school. We were able to stay for free because of a house-sitting gig, which I highly recommend! We walked all over the city, having picnics, and soaking in the romance that is in the very air of Paris.

Q) How long did it take you to write? From germ idea to completion, about a year. You would not believe all the variations this book has gone through. I guess I’ll save those other versions for new characters. Never throw anything away.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
I love seeing how characters evolve. I must admit I have fallen in love with every single one of my heroes. It would be very tough to choose if they all sprang to life. Tee hee.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
I hate editing! Just ask my critique group. Things are flowing, sounding so wonderful, then I hit a brick wall because I realize there is no way on God’s green earth the hero/heroine would do such a thing and I have to cut it.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
Lois McMaster Bujold. I know she’s not “famous” in the celebrity arena per se, but she sure is famous to me. I would love to be able to tap into her brain and write as beautifully (and funny) as she does. Plus, I would use the power of her name and go meet some other wonderful authors like Marian Keyes, Alexander McCall Smith and Eloisa James. I like to read authors who can touch on the serious while still being lighthearted and throw in a belly laugh for good measure.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
A bottle of Galway Bay Irish Eggnog. It’s a year old. It was a gift from last Christmas. I received three of them! Are my friends trying to tell me something? I thought I would save one to have early this year. Sure hope I get some more this season. Hint, hint.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
A follow-up to Nikki’s story! I had to tell her sister Jessica’s story. Jessica is rather unlikeable in Mistress for Hire, so I had to figure out why and give her a love story of her own. And, of course, it’s set in Scotland because every woman needs at least one Highlander in her life, right? You can also check out my erotica line The Hot Shoppe series from Soul Mate Publishing. So many yummy men, so little time.

People say karma's a...well, you know. Personally, I don't think I'm that bad. It's not like I wanted this job. I wasn't even in my right mind when I accepted it.

Now, I'm surrounded by crazy coworkers like Lady Luck, who's a bit of a tramp, and Murphy's Law, who's a bumbling oaf.

But the worst is Fate. He's got a problem with transfers like myself and I have to see him constantly. It's unavoidable, since we're hunting the same man, my murderer.

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
Horrible people getting away with lousy things

Q) How long did it take you to write?
That’s difficult to nail down exactly. I started writing down notes and formulating the premise of the book a year before I actually started it. I also have the worst sense of timing. Things I think happened a couple of weeks ago could be a couple of months ago.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
Being able to do everything I want in it.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
Having to do everything in it. Having full control of what happens cuts both ways. As much as I enjoy having full control of the story, it would be nice if someone could read my mind, put it down and hand it back to me so I could enjoy it purely as a reader.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
If we could go back in time, it would be Einstein. I’d love to know what it’s like to possess that type of genius for one day.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
Grated parmesan cheese. I couldn’t find a date on it but that stuff lasts a while!

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
After The Karma Series wraps up, I’m thinking of dabbling in some PNR.

Thanks for having me!

Strange Occurrences and Plausible Explanations

I’ve always been fascinated with ghosts. When I was in junior high, I bought a Ouija board. I own two packs of Tarot cards (although my favorite deck is my starter kit, but I don’t remember where I got them from). I absolutely love Ghost Hunters on SyFy, and I’ve actually been on a ghost hunt.

I’ve even had some crazy things happen to me. Let me give you some examples.

In high school, on Halloween, a few of us girls from the swim team were playing with the Ouija board. We asked the spirit to give us a sign if it was in the room, and the indicator pointed to a spider at the corner of the board.

One time in college, a group of friends and I were playing with the Ouija and asked the spirit to give us a sign it was in the room. A plant that was hanging over the window crashed onto the floor, and handprints were smudged on the blind.

Another time playing with the Ouija board on Halloween, we again asked the spirit to give us a sign, and a transformer blew on the telephone pole in the backyard and knocked out the power.

Whenever I stayed in the house of my ex-boyfriend, I would always have these horrific nightmares about corpses coming after me. He bought a dream-catcher to stave off the nightmares, which worked as long as I was sleeping under it. More often than not, he would pass out under it, leaving me on the unprotected side of the bed.

One night, he got up to go to the bathroom (I was already awake because I had a horrible dream), and on the way, he passed by a shadow figure about his height. He did a double take, then proceeded to do his business. I was freaking out, and closed my eyes, hoping that when I opened them, it would be gone. Nope. It was crouched right next to the bed, staring at me.

Despite my fascination and interest and the crazy things I’ve experienced, I’m actually quite skeptical about the existence of ghosts. People who want to see these experiences as paranormal will see them as such.  Personally, they were just coincidence to me.  I need more proof/evidence to explain it as paranormal.

The spider? He may have just happened to be there. The plant and the handprints. The hook was affixed to the wall with a sticky back. They don’t hold forever. And the handprints? It’s possible they were there the whole time and we never noticed. I mean, during the day, the blinds were usually pulled up to let in light. At night, it was dark, so we wouldn’t have been able to see them.

The transformer probably just got overloaded at that exact moment and decided to blow. It was Halloween. There were tons of parties happening that night, it might have just been it’s time.

I know there are those of you out there who would argue the other side of this. And that’s totally fine. It would be awesome to know these things were paranormal and get proof. And there are those who would freak out that I own a Ouija board. Which, yes, I still have and it’s in the closet with the other games. Because that’s all it is: a game. Parker Bros. put it out.

Aside from these strange happenings, my friends and I also used to think it was funny to think “Pat” for every answer the “spirit” would give us, and that’s all the indicator would spell. If it was really a spirit, I would like to believe it could spell whatever it wanted, not what we were thinking.

But I’m not going to argue about the validity of a game. It entertained us, which was what it was created to do, and none of my friends became possessed with demons. On a side note, any horror movie that uses a Ouija board as the scary object that creates problems for the characters automatically loses points in my book.

The shadow is a little harder to explain, so I’m not going to try.

Even recently we had a strange occurrence happen in our house. My hubby and I had gone to bed about 10:15, and an hour later, I woke up to the TV on in the other room. I assumed that my husband had just left it on, not remembering in my half-asleep brain that we went to bed together, and told him to turn it off. He was out of it, so I had to get up and do it. The only thing I could think was that one of the pets accidentally hit the remote while jumping on/off the couch.

These things don’t usually scare me (with the exception of the shadow—stupid, creepy shadow), and more often than not they DO have a plausible explanation. I would LOVE for something else to happen to me that I couldn’t explain, but I’m not going to hold my breath waiting. And I would absolutely LOVE to go on another ghost hunt.

I’m fascinated with ghosts because I don’t really understand them, but I want to understand them. However, until I get more concrete examples or have more experiences, I will continue to remain skeptical.

What about you? What’s your thoughts on ghosts?

Rory Sullivan thinks he has it all, until his boyfriend breaks his heart and the new landlord raises the rent on his bar. A chance meeting with Jin Yue, a rich dragon, gives Rory hope. Jin promises Rory he can save the bar and get even with his ex – for a price.

All Rory has to do is pretend to be in a relationship with Jin. Rory’s bad boy nature, and the desire for some no-strings-attached sex make the idea way too intriguing. Even if Rory’s brain thinks it’s a bad idea, his cock heartily disagrees.

Problem is, Jin Yue might be all kinds of hot, but he’s also Haven City’s one and only crime boss – sexy, powerful and deadly. Now Rory is tied to Jin until the dragon’s mission is complete, regardless of assassination attempts, hunters or the cops.

Jin Yue won the gang war, but the battle for Haven City isn’t over.

Enter Rory Sullivan – the tatted up fire mage who can help Jin lay claim to his rightful territory. However, things don’t turn out the way Jin plans. Rory pushes all the right buttons and riles up Jin’s dragon instincts. The fire mage is the farthest thing from Jin’s type, but the heat between them sets Jin’s blood on fire.

They’re playing a dangerous game that puts both of their hearts and lives on the line. While the passion between Jin and Rory sizzles, can a relationship built on deceit grow into something more?

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
Jin Yue was a popular character from the previous book in the Haven City Series (Tiger’s Den), and I wanted to tell a story about him and his sexy mate. Also, I wanted to know how Jin would react if someone didn’t fear him.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
About 5 weeks. I write fulltime and have a set word count per day, about 3000 to 4000 words, so it’s pretty easy to write a book quickly.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
Everything! I get to work at home in pajamas! Also, I get to write the sort of books I want to read, filled with characters I love. It’s great!

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
That it makes my hands hurt. Seriously. That part is no fun.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
Tom Hiddleston because I totes want to stare in the mirror and be like “holy crap, I’m Tom Hiddleston!” Then I’d go hang out with Benedict Cumberbatch and take selfies of us together all day.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
Salad dressing. Way too old to consume. Probably over a year. Eww!

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
More books! I’m working on Omega’s Destiny (Lost Wolves Book 3) which will be out on December 29, 2014, and Alpha’s Gamble (Haven City Series # 7) which will be out in March 2015.

Heart of a Rocky by Kelsey Jordan

Kelsey Jordan is the author of The Gardinian World novels. Though she has a preference for all things paranormal and romantic, Kelsey admits she just writes what her muse demands of her. It’s less painful that way. When she isn’t enjoying the momentary benefits of playing god to the many characters that live in her head, she can usually be found curled up with a book, killing something in a video game, or spending time with her family. At some point in the day she is probably drinking more than her recommended dose of coffee, but don’t tell her that. She doesn’t care about recommended servings.

As a Texas native and self-described Air Force brat, Kelsey now lives in Georgia with her husband and their tutu-wearing minion.

Internet followers, beauty, power. It all sounded good.

Until it transformed into a terrifying reality Dorianna couldn’t stop

Dorianna is a dark twist for the Internet generation on A Picture of Dorian Gray.

When her father is jailed, her mother ships lonely, plain Dorianna to her aunt’s. There, Dorianna yearns to build a new identity, but the popular Lacey bullies her—mostly for getting attention from her ex, Ander.

Ander takes Dorianna to Coney Island where Wilson, a videographer, creates a stunning compilation of her. She dreams of being an online sensation, as she’s never even had a birthday party, and vows she’d give anything to go viral. Wilson claims he’s the Prince of Darkness and warns her the pledge has downsides.

Dorianna thinks he’s joking. She has no idea of how dire the consequences might be.

Q) What inspired you to write Dorianna?
I’m fascinated with the themes of hunger—for more friends and popularity, and the corrupting nature of power. In Dorianna’s case, it’s the longing for more and more followers—on Facebook, Instagram and You Tube. It takes her down a very treacherous path that she can no longer control. I wanted to follow her story to find out how she’d get out of it! Or if she would…

Dorianna is a new twist on two of my favorite novels: Christopher Marlow's Doctor Faustus, and Oscar Wilde’s A Picture of Dorian Gray. Faustus is a brilliant college professor who, after earning what is equivalent to a PhD, is bored and asks the medieval version of "Is this all there is?" He has noble ideas: to find cures for dreadful diseases—even raise the dead. But you need superpowers for that! So, he falls into temptation and calls up Mephistopheles to grant him powers. Faustus doesn't believe in the devil, or hell. He's a modern man of science. Damnation, piffle! He makes a vow with the devil's messenger and signs it in blood. Soon, he regrets it, but there's no taking it back. In Dorian Gray, Dorian is awed by his own image in the portrait his uncle paints of him. He makes a dark wish: to stay always as young and handsome and only have the painting age. The painting becomes hideous because it shows the ugliness growing in his soul. There are even more versions of this trope because other authors through the years have loved it, too. I wanted to create one for our time.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
I wrote the first draft of Dorianna during Nano a few years ago. It went through additional drafts, and a switch from third to first person. It took three years.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
Dreaming up characters, figuring out their relationships, their unique narratives, how it all weaves together. I like getting to the emotional heart in a scene. Editing too, oddly enough.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
That first draft is brutal, and takes an enormous amount of heart, energy, and stamina. The hubby can attest to my distracted, unsettled state when I’m in mid-draft.

Q) If you could be any famous person for a day, who would you be and why?
Either the princess, Catherine of Aragon so I could experience extreme pampering, or the pirate-ess, Anne Bonny, so I could sail and act like a beguiling terror.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
Ack! Maybe a frozen TV dinner? You’re reminding me to clean out my freezer.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
More and more, I like writing about supernatural elements: witches, modern demons, and all of that good scary stuff. I may do a sequel to Dorianna from Wilson’s point of view. He’s the modern prince of darkness (a videographer) who lures her to the dark side. But the novel I’m working on right now is a historical paranormal romance set in 1932 on the Jersey shore. It’s called Beach Witch and it’s about a pretty young lady named Fiera, who has no idea she’s a powerful witch, at least at first. Want more hints? After spending twenty years trapped in her civil body, Kele can finally shift into feral form. By tooth and claw, she’s determined to climb the Payami pack hierarchy.

Her parents plan to mate her with a hunter from a rival pack, but her heart’s already been stolen by the most unsuitable wolf possible—Peder, an omega male. She’d gladly give him her body except he’s disappeared from her life. Maybe into the thieving arms of another female.

Peder has spent every moment of their forced separation training to be a hunter. When he hears of her arranged marriage, he fears he’s waited too long to trespass back onto Payami lands to fight for her hand—but he damned well isn’t giving up.

On his journey to confront Kele, Peder is attacked and wakes in a cage, helpless as a band of vampires attack Kele’s mating party. Separated by social standing, thrown together by tragedy, they must work together to survive. And find out if their attraction is merely puppy love, or a bond that’s stronger than time.

Warning: This book contains an omega male who’s done submitting and a hunter female who isn’t used to needing anyone to come to her rescue. Violence ensues, not for the faint of heart.

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
I’ve always love princess and pauper stories, like Disney’s Aladdin. This is my version with shifters in alternate Earth where humans don’t exist.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
I wrote this book fast. Well, fast for me. It took me 2 ½ months. I was really into this story and had been dying to write it ever since I wrote book one, Scent of Salvation.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
I love meeting my characters and creating worlds for them. I love the way I feel when the book is finished. It’s a huge sense of accomplishment each time.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
The final set of edits called galleys when you have to read it for any typos. OMG, by then I’ve read the book a zillion times and I just don’t want to do it again. LOL

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
The president of the United States, so I can go visit area 51 and read all the ‘secret’ files.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
As of this morning, it was a tub of Activia coconut yogurt. It was three weeks old and had expired last week. :b

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
I have a retelling of the Ugly Duckling releasing on Valentine’s day.

Also, next year I’ll be working on book 3 of the Chronicles of Eorthe series and book four of the Angler series.

Hoodoo, haunts, and horror.

Riga Hayworth just wants to wrap up her supernatural TV series exploring the magic of New Orleans. But when she stumbles across a corpse, she becomes a police consultant on a series of occult murders, murders that quickly become all too personal.

Book six in the Riga Hayworth series of paranormal mysteries.

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
New Orleans! I love the city, and all the magical legends and activity – hoodoo, voodoo, werewolves, vampires… It’s got it all.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
It feels like this one went more slowly, I’m not sure why. But probably about two months to write, another two to edit.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
I love getting the stories out of my head and onto paper. There’s something almost magical about hearing other people talk about my stories, and knowing that now the stories are in their heads.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
The solitary aspect is sort of love/hate for me. I really prefer to have someplace to go, rather than to just sit in my home office.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
I can’t think of anyone I’d like to be, but I’d love to spend a day (or even an hour) chatting with the economist, Thomas Sowell. (Yeah, I’m an economics geek too).

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
There’s a jar of mayonnaise that’s at least a year old. I hardly ever use the stuff and should probably throw it out.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
My agent is trying to sell a paranormal cozy mystery I wrote – The Perfectly Proper Paranormal Museum. And I’m working on a sequel to my proto-steampunk novel, Steam and Sensibility. And I think there’s at least one more Riga Hayworth in me.

The Vampires of the Tranquilli Bloodline Series

Hi Everyone!

Nice to be here on Pembroke Sinclair’s blog during my DESTINY book tour. :-)

Let’s talk vampires, shall we?

As a reader and writer of vampire fiction, I love that every writer has her own unique spin on our fangy friends. Some vampires sparkle in the sun while others disintegrate or burst into flames. Some are alive and aging while others are immortal and/or undead. Some fight for Team Awesome and others for Team Horrible.

Here’s the lowdown on my vampires, the inhabitants of The Tranquilli Bloodline Series...

* My vampires are undead. If they choose, they can make their hearts beat and their lungs breathe. It amuses them to play human every once in a while.

* They’re nocturnal creatures, sensitive to sunlight. Prolonged exposure results in true death. Most older vamps can tolerate some sun but you’ll never find them frolicking on a sunny beach.

* They’re “allergic” to silver. Silver bullets can temporarily knock out young vampires, but older ones will shake it off in a heartbeat and eviscerate you where you stand. Consider yourself warned. ;-)

* My vampires survive on human blood only (no animal blood), straight from a living host or stored. They can also consume alcohol.

* All my vamps are equipped with a basic set of vamp-y skills including heightened senses and super strength. They can glamour and compel most humans and some vampires. Some ancients possess unique skills not necessarily associated with vampirism. Older vamps can hurt/kill/torture with power alone, though they do love to get physical. For example, Stella (Carina’s bodyguard) and Jonas (Carina’s mentor) are both quite fond of swords.

* Most vampires in my world run in gangs. The Tranquilli vampire cosca (Italian for “gang” or “clan”) is the most powerful of them all.

* Lastly, whether they sport the label Good or Evil, my vampires are passionate, fiercely protective, possessive, and loyal. They’ll do whatever it takes to protect the ones they love.

Hi! Thank you so much for having me on your blog! Here are my answers! Have a great day!
Linsey Hall

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
I was an archaeologist before I was a writer, so I’ve always loved history. At the time I started writing this story, I was living and working in England (looking for shipwrecks in Plymouth sound). I’d always loved the story of Britain’s Celtic warrior queen Boudica, but it wasn’t until I lived there that I finally wanted to write her story. She’s the heroine of the first book in the series, Braving Fate. Her hero, Cadan, is also a Celt, and both of them find themselves in present day Scotland where the story is set. Edinburgh is my favorite city, so it was only natural to star the series there. There’s just something so magical about it.

Once I’d written that book, I just loved it so much that I wrote two more in the world I’d created. Both of those books feature characters who appeared in book one, so they were part of that inspiration

Q) How long did it take you to write?
The first book, Braving Fate, took me about two years to write because I was working full time. It also went through many phases of editing to make sure it was as perfect as possible. The next two books, Soulceress and Rogue Soul, which released at the same time as Braving Fate, took about 4-6 months each because I was able to write full time. Also, I was more familiar with the world that I had created, which sped up the process.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
Getting to create a world and stories that are exciting and fun and make people happy. I can count on romances novels to make me happy when I’m down or just be a bit of fun. I love the idea of writing stories that do that for other people. Also, it’s just super fun to make up stories and see where they go.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
Revisions. They are totally necessary, but they can be really difficult to make. There are often a lot of loose threads to tie up, and that can be really tough.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
This is so hard, but I’m going to have to say Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. Maybe it’s a silly answer (“I want to be a princess!”) and that if I thought of it for longer, I could probably pick someone that made me look way more intelligent – but I just really want to know what her life is like. It’s got to be crazy, joining the royal family. Alternately, if we’re talking historical person, probably Boudica, the Celtic warrior queen who is the heroine of my first book (in her reincarnated form of a modern-day history professor).

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it? I don’t even want to know. You can’t make me look!

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
Well, books 1, 2, and 3 in the Mythean Arcana are out now. Book 4 in the series, Stolen Fate, will come out on December 8th. I love the world that I’ve created and will continue writing in it. I’ve already got 4 books on the schedule for 2015, so those should be coming out about 3-4 months apart (which might push one of those books into 2016). Also, you can expect me to be hanging out on Facebook and Twitter and posting pictures of my cats (it’s a sickness – I can’t seem to stop:-).

Four winters later and in charge of Keir's warriors, Colin battles in an ongoing war against the MacLomains. Yet now the worst has come to pass. His ill-found chieftain has finally trapped Torra.

In a castle siege unlike any other and because of time travel, the modern day Brouns and medieval MacLomains join together in a final stand-off against their merciless enemy. Battles rage. Mysteries are revealed. Freedom is found. But most importantly, a love long repressed at last rises up determined to conquer all in Plight of the Highlander.

From start to finish, The MacLomain Series: Next Generation has been a romantic adventure that managed to surprise me on several occasions. By the time I made it to Plight of the Highlander, I was more than eager to share Torra and Colin’s story.

I’ve never written about characters that fell in love then were torn apart for four long years. Bringing them back together allowed me to better appreciate the sacrifices made for love. Hence, this became a story not only about the strength of true love but all the mistakes that can be made along the way. Mistakes, in this case, that must be forgiven if good can ultimately conquer evil.

So rather than delve too much into the plot, I thought instead to share three unknown facts about the heroic couple in this tale.

Torra MacLomain…

- Has spoken telepathically with two ancestors, deceased kings, for years: King Erc of the Dalriada clan and Viking King Naðr Véurr.

- She loved another man before she met Colin MacLeod.

- She struck a deal with Viking seers to keep her dragon blood repressed.

Colin MacLeod…

- Secretly met with Torra nearly a year before being forced to lead Keir Hamiton’s armies.

- He visited Torra on rare occasion but only through the fire on the hearth in her chamber. Never in person.

- He was once close friends with Valan, Keir Hamilton’s son and the man Torra loved before she met Colin.

*Thanks so much for hosting me! *

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
Sitting in an empty office building alone on the night shift at a job that was about to go away and deciding it was time to give my true passion a chance.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
From start to finish, it took about 2 years. A lot of that was time where I didn’t write at all, however.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
I love being totally immersed in the story and seeing what comes up next as I write. I lose track of time and become caught up in the flow of it unfolding.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
Disciplining myself to sit down and get it done. I really struggle with that.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
After 47 years on the planet, I figured out the best person to be at all times is yourself.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
Probably a jar of pickled peppers someone gave my husband for Christmas about 3 years ago. I really should get rid of that.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
There is a sequel planned for “The Underminers”. I also have a new project started that I like to describe as a cross between “Alice In Wonderland” and “Game of Thrones”. I can’t say much more than that about it yet.

I'm Not Worthy

I suffer from many different neurosis, which includes both anxiety and paranoia.  That can become problematic for an author, and let me explain why.

I love creating stories.  The voices in my head refuse to shut up until I've put their story onto paper.  I also really enjoy researching things and putting my findings onto paper.  I love sharing those stories/observations with other people, but it also scares me to death to think that people will actually read it.

Earlier this week, I gave the people who helped me with Undead Obsessed copies of the book.  And I had an internal freak out about them reading it.  I started to panic.  What if they don't like it?  What if I didn't edit their parts the way I was supposed to?  What if they want me to change something?

I talked myself down, telling myself everything was going to be all right.  Later in the day, I delivered a couple of the books, and the professors seemed excited to get them.  As I left, I had second thoughts about giving them copies.  I had to fight every urge to run back into the buildings and take them back.

Again, I calmed myself down.  I spent the night and this morning thinking about the situation and trying to figure out why it was bothering me so much.  After all, these people knew from the beginning that I was interviewing them for a book.  I gave them the courtesy of reviewing their chapters before finalizing the chapters, and I made the vast majority of the edits they suggested.  So why was I still freaking out about it?

As I thought about it more, I realized it was because I didn't think I was worthy to have written it.  I had convinced myself that all the hard work I had done was worthless.  No one was going to like it, least of all the people who helped me with it, and they were going to be angry at me for associating them with the project.

And the truth of the matter is: they could.  They could hate it.  They could be upset to be associated with it, but you know what?  That's their prerogative.  They were given the opportunity before it came out to make changes, and they did.  But at the end of the day, I'm still the author.  I did the best I could.  I wrote what I wanted to write.  I don't need anyone's permission to research and find answers to questions I want answers to.  I'm allowed to write anything that strikes my fancy.

It would be incredibly naive of me to think that everyone in the world is going to like my work, but I can't let that stop me.  I can't be afraid to do what I want to do because someone in the world might not like it.  I can't continue to believe I'm not good enough.

Putting my writing out there is scary, and it opens me up to criticism.  I know that, and I have to be able to deal with it.  For the most part, I can, but the illogical part of my brain, the neurosis, can make it incredibly difficult.  However, there is no reward without risk, and I'm willing to take the chance.  I hope the rest of you are too.

A Space of One’s Own

Earlier this week, I put together a cat tree for my cat. We’ve never had enough space for her to have one before, but now that we do, I thought she would really enjoy it.

After putting it together, I had my doubts about whether or not she would actually use it. My husband commented that I probably needed to put catnip on it so she would like it. That concerned me because I wasn’t exactly sure where I had put the catnip. But I wasn’t going to be overly worried about it until later. Alia never ventures out of her hiding space until after the kids go to bed, so I had a while to wait.

She didn’t need any encouragement. From the moment she spotted it, she jumped up on it, curled up in the house, played with the mouse toy, and stared down at the dogs with contempt. She seemed so excited and happy, which, in turn, made me ecstatic.

Watching her on her tree made me think about how we all need a space that makes us feel totally safe and happy. We can always adapt and make do, but when we find that place where we can let go and become totally vulnerable, without having to worry about being vulnerable, that’s amazing. That’s when you get to be yourself. That’s when you get to let everything go.
These moments and having this space is so important. Without it, the world is just an awful place. For me, my haven (my cat tree) is at home. It’s where I can finally unwind from a busy day, pull my hair up, and put on my sweats. I don’t have to be “on.” I don’t have to worry about work. Granted, it’s not always a paradise, but it’s where I feel safe. And, like the cat, it gives me a perfect perch to look upon the world.

Paranormal Worlds and Secret Societies

My favorite genre to read and to write is erotic paranormal romance. There’s so much opportunity to turning a human world upside down, especially when humans are clueless to the possibility or probability there’s something more than their “kind” living and breathing among them.

I love creating a society / world unknown to the humans, but one that is always in plain sight if a person only focused. As busy as our world is today and as programmed as we are, and don’t forget committed to our sometimes crazy habits, who has time to notice anything out of the norm? Seriously, what are the chances?

The TV series, Grimm, is a good one for relating “other” worlds of beings living inside the human world…and humans aren’t in tuned enough to see them.

Creating these secret beings with their own unique abilities, rules / laws, hierarchies, ways of procreating, and ways of living with their own kind, along with living among human-kind, is almost like playing a “God-like” role.

Holly Gets Darkly is an erotic paranormal short, a secret society living within the human race. I enjoyed researching the kindred beast / elusive creatures in my story as it helped in the development of the “paranormal beings.” Sort of like sitting around a witch’s caldron and throwing in a little of this and dash of that to come out with…Walla, a new kind of sexy shifter.

So, what’s your favorite shifter – or paranormal being – and why?

It’s not going to be easy with a madman hell bent on getting one thing…

REVENGE.

The killers won’t stop at anything. It’s time to get ready, and like any good Sinner... Repent.

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
Sinner Repent was always an idea percolating in my head. Then, one day, I started writing my FBI series and saw a way to tie it in with the characters crossing over. I made it happen. With 95% of my books (not the vampyre ones) I cross over all the characters. So, if you love Elizabeth, you’ll see her again. It’s the same with Doctor Callista Carter. I like to think that I’ve created a whole world inside FBI West. You’ll watch them all fall in love, get hurt, get healed, and form lasting bonds.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
Generally, each of my books are no less than 400 pages each. So, that takes me about 10 days to get the first draft down. Then I do one read through to add all the details. If you count that, 15 days start to finish before it heads off to my editing team.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
That I can be home for my kids. They’re only young once, and I like that I didn't miss anything. First steps. First tooth. Buying my daughter her first bra (Right now, she’d be mortified that I just wrote that.--also a first!) Being able to have writing as my career has given me so many more opportunities to be a mom.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
How brutal it is on my body. After a 16 hour day, my body is sore from not moving and my hands ache from typing nonstop. Other than that, it’s an AWESOME job.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
Mary Shelly. I find it fascinating that in the early 1800’s she managed to write a book so amazing that it has withstood time. Without Frankenstein, where would our scary monsters be? I would love to go back to that time, live her life for a while, just to see what it was like. She got to hang out with Lord Byron… how cool would that be?

Her life was like a great novel. She ran off with a married man, experienced hardship, and traveled the world. I might need more than one day as her!

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
The grape jelly. It’s probably 3 months old. My kids hate grape jelly, but I love it. So, I’m the only one who eats it. Now… I’m thinking I won’t be. It’s too damn old!

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
Readers can expect a lot. I have a full schedule slotted for 2015. Right now, there are 11 mega novels on the schedule. One will max out at 800 pages. That’s going to be my Christmas reunion book, where everyone’s favorite characters return to solve one hell of a crime. In the FBI series, there will be three new books. Dead Shall Speak (book 10), Pledging to Die (book 11) and Sleigh Bells Ring (book 12)

In the Littlemoon series, (my paranormal one) you’ll have Unthinkable Games (book 3) and Truth is Found (book 4)

In my Harcourte Vampyre series, you’ll have Dangerous Misery (book 3) and Dangerous Retaliation (book 4)

In the Sinner Trilogy, you’ll have the final book. First, there is Sinner Repent. Then, Sinner Realized (which is out now) and finally, Sinner Reborn. Once I release the final one, the trilogy is rolling into a series titled ; ORACLE. It’s all hush-hush right now J Don’t tell anyone I mentioned it! It has to be our secret…

In my Croft & Croft series, you’ll have Heaven is Weeping (book 5) and Hell is Burning (book 6) That series is ending and morphing into a new one called the Justice series. It’s going to be darker and edgier, but with all the same characters. (I’m super excited about this one!!!)

I am also releasing my last anthology (Holiday Reinforcements) in the wildly popular Behind Closed Doors trilogy. (Illegal Fantasies and Romance Under Arrest). If you like sexy short stories, they’re the ones for you. I’ve removed all the thriller and crime out of them. They’re pure erotica but with a sweet storyline.

That’s only a few. I have so much more planned for this upcoming year. I hope you’ll all join me!!!
