Just months before the Battle of Central Park and the onset of the Second Civil War, President Obama declares martial law in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut as Montoya’s encephalopathy spreads.

Despite the military’s best efforts, the government falls and Manhattan is reborn as a city-state under a military dictatorship. Survivors Mike Calaf, and Avalon Calendar struggle to survive, caught between the zombies and the new ruler of New York.

But long before the zombie infection, during the First Civil War, Doctor William Jackson (of the Confederate States of America) is trying to unravel the mystery behind this strange new sickness. He knows that if Complex P fails to work, there could be devastating consequences which might influence the future of mankind.

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
A dream, or perhaps it was a nightmare I had one night, about the zombie apocalypse and what New York City would look like after it all went down. I sat at my computer and started writing and it just started pouring out of me. At first I thought it would be a short story, but the plot kept thickening and a short story became a novel.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
About 1 year.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
Creative writing is an escape from my “day job” which is as a full-time practicing medical doctor. I feel like I am only using one small part of my brain for medicine. In order to exercise the other, more creative parts, I turn to writing.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
The way it devours my time. I can easily sit and write for many hours at a time. It’s very hard with a medical career and growing family. I don’t like to miss opportunities for QT with my wife and kids, so I feel very guilty when I get washed away in a writing frenzy. So I try to keep my writing mostly as a late-night business. But it doesn’t always work out that way.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
I would have said Woody Allen because I admire his films so much. I think he is a great genius. As to the rumors of his personal life…who knows? But the whole thing creeps me out enough to NOT select him for this answer. I would love to be Stephen King for a day, just so I could get an idea of what goes on in his sick/immensely creative brain.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
I do believe there is an apple rotting in the back of one of the vegetable drawers.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
Currently, I am writing a short story called, The Predictors. It is a tale about vampires in the not-to-distant future.
