Temptation in a Bottle by Shona Husk

Three time ARRA finalist Shona Husk lives in Western Australia at the edge of the Indian Ocean. Blessed with a lively imagination she spent most of her childhood making up stories. As an adult she discovered romance novels and hasn’t looked back. Drawing on history and myth, she writes about heroes who are armed and dangerous but have a heart of gold—sometimes literally.

With stories ranging from sensual to scorching, she is published with Carina Press, Ellora’s Cave, Samhain Publishing and Sourcebooks.

His only wish is to be free…

For centuries Gage has existed only to fulfill the most intimate desires of the woman who holds his bottle. Now Gage has a wish of his own—to be a real man and a have a real life even though he knows it’s an impossible dream. This time he plans to take his bottle and break it just to see what will happen.

Paramedic Sasha Watts has seen the damage falling in love does to people and she has no intention of being another of Cupid’s victims. She accidentally frees Gage without knowing what he is. After one kiss he walks away and she never expects to see him again, but the goddess Inanna has other ideas.

As punishment for breaking his bottle she erases Gage’s memory of everything but Sasha. Only Sasha can give him the life he longs for and only Gage can be the man she’s always dreamed of, but first she’ll have to open her heart and he’ll have to finish the job Inanna gave him. If he fails, he’ll cease to exist.

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
Temptation in a Bottle is the second In a Bottle story. While the first one was about a woman getting her dream boyfriend and the genie falling in love, Temptation in a Bottle is a little darker. The genie is prepared to risk death by breaking his bottle to be free. It’s always an interesting idea to see how far characters can be pushed and see what they are willing to give up.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
The first draft didn’t take me long, but after that it sat around for a couple of years as I was too busy working on other things to clean it up and give it the attention it needed.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
I love making up new worlds and I love the happily ever afters. Creating something that readers can believe in is a lot of fun. I think my love of world building comes from growing up reading fantasy novels.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
It depends on the day. Sometimes the words don’t flow, or the edits seem impossible. But it’s always different the next day so I just keep going. Overall it’s a great job J

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
I’d want to be someone really rich, then I’d donate a pile of money to charity. Or I could be Deborra-Lee Furness so I could kiss Hugh Jackman. I imagine that would also be fun ;)

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
I think the oldest thing would be my hubby’s left over tinned beetroot (gag). It’s in a tub at the back. I refuse to touch it.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
I have two sci-fi romances coming out (one in a few days!) Lunar Reunion and Lunar Dancer and two more fairy books this year, The Changeling Soldier and To Love a King. There is more exciting news to come but I can’t say yet (I know, I’m evil).
