Starfire by Michele N. Zugnoni‏

Michele is a recovering demon (AKA attorney) who left the legal field to follow her dreams of writing and teaching college-level English. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling as far as her credit card will take her, reading an assortment of fantasy and paranormal, and playing with her frisky animals (two black cats and two loud-mouthed cockatiels).

She’s loved vampires since she was four, when her BFF confided that her older sister was a vamp who enjoyed drinking blood. Like any four-year old, Michele thought this was the most awesome thing ever. Michele currently lives in Modesto, California, but will move to Santa Barbara to begin a Ph.D. program in education and literacy this fall.

From an ancient battle comes a forbidden love … and the chance to hope again.

Destined to destroy vampires, or refuse and be executed, seventeen-year-old Julia Kirkwood finds herself drawn to two things: a life of partying and rebelling against the law, and Clay Blackwell. The trouble is, Clay happens to be the son of the Lumince high priestess, the leader of a race of peace-loving vampires, and Julia’s father’s unspoken enemy. For Julia isn’t just a Reaver, she’s the daughter of the Reaver Chief. And Julia’s father is furious to discover she’s secretly dating and falling in love with a Lumince, particularly after an attempt at peace crumbles in bloodshed.

When her father intensifies his attack against the Luminces, endangering the lives of Clay’s people, Julia’s forced to take a stand. She must choose to accept her destiny as a Reaver, or claim her heart and find the inward strength to declare war against her own flesh and blood. Interwoven with her fate are the ramifications of a love story as forbidden and passionate as her own: the ancient romance that sparked the creation of Reavers and Luminces, igniting this centuries-old feud. Will Julia’s feelings for Clay be enough to transcend centuries of love-turned-hate? Or will their final hope for peace be incinerated in a fiery war?

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
You know, it’s interesting. I had no intention of writing STARFIRE. I was actually happily composing another story when BAM! I got a severe case of writers block. And when I say severe, I mean severe. After several hours of attempting to get past one scene, and threatening my computer with life or death bodily injury, I finally gave up and went swimming. In the early hours of the morning, however, I awoke with a voice in my head: it was Julia, the main character of STARFIRE. And she informed me that she had a story to tell. Within the space of a day, I was hooked. I couldn’t imagine writing anything else. My writers block went away, and here we are now. J

Q) How long did it take you to write?
Three months. I was so enthralled with this story, I was waking up at night simply to write it all down. I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next. This story flowed faster than any I’ve written thus far; it was pure joy to write.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
Creating fantasy worlds and getting to know different characters. It’s so much fun to play around in my own mind!

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
Oh, that would have to be the self-doubt. Every once in a while, it just sneaks up on me, and I have a hard time forcing it away. It’s when I allow myself to get re-immersed in my fantasy worlds, and reacquainted with my characters that the self-doubt goes away and I remember how much I love to write. It truly is the greatest thing in the world.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
*lol* That’s a tough one! But if I really had to choose … I guess it would have to be JK Rowling. It would  be so much fun to play around in the world of Hogwarts! Can you imagine? Inventing various things Ravenclaw and Gryffindor, getting inside the head of Draco Malfoy, playing around with Harry and Ron and Hermione… Yeah, it would be a dream.

In fact, I think one of the reasons I love STARFIRE so much is that I really did create my own world, complete with magic and poetry and laws. There’s really nothing better than delving into a world of your own creation and watching it come to life.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
Can I do the stalest thing instead? ‘Cause that would have to be my chocolate pie. And ain’t no one touchin’ my chocolate. Just you go ahead and try. ;-)

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
Thank you for asking. I’m excited to report that Goddess Kissed, the STARFIRE short-story prequel, will be coming out on September 1. It tells the story of Sonia Blackwell before she was high priestess of the vampires, and her rise to power amidst a world of Reavers who would do about anything to stop this incredibly powerful woman from taking the throne.

You can also expect the second book in the STARFIRE series come early 2014. I can’t wait to share!

The Necromancer’s Seduction by Mimi Sebastian‏

Noemi Ghirghi writes as Mimi Sebastian and raised herself on books and the strange and unusual with an unhealthy dose of comics and Scooby Doo. Loving angst-filled romance thrown in the mix, she decided to blend all those elements in a steamy mix in her first Urban Fantasy series, the Necromancer Books. The first book, The Necromancer’s Seduction, debuts July 15, 2013, with ImaJinn Books.

Noemi spent two years in the Ivory Coast with the Peace Corps and loves to introduce tid-bits from her experiences in her writing. She’s a member of Romance Writers of America and the Fantasy, Futuristic and Paranormal chapter of RWA. She has never feared the walking dead. It’s the power required to reanimate the dead that startles her, seduces her. The power that dwells inside her…and is growing.

For Professor Ruby Montagne, being a necromancer has brought her nothing but heartache, and she walked away from that part of her life long ago. However, her quiet existence in San Francisco is shattered when she stumbles upon the body of a slain witch, and the supernatural community insists she transform him into a revenant to track the killer. But his murder was just the beginning, and Ruby soon realizes that the stakes are higher than anyone can imagine—and that revenants have nasty minds of their own.

Now demonic creatures have escaped into the human world, and zombies once again walk the streets. For humanity’s sake, Ruby forms an unlikely alliance with a witch, a zombie, and Ewan March, a demon warrior who sets her senses on fire.

She’s always distrusted demons and Ewan is no exception, but circumstances push them closer together, and Ruby not only finds it harder to resist him, she isn’t sure she even wants to. But she suspects his job of patrolling the portal separating humans and demons conceals a dark and deadly past that may consume them both.

With events spiraling out of control, Ruby unravels a plot that not only threatens the human and demon realms, but puts Ruby’s very soul in jeopardy. Because when the dead walk, no one is safe. Especially Ruby.

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
It was really the characters speaking to me and telling me this story. I never thought my heroine would be a necromancer, but once I began writing the story, I became more and more intrigued with exploring her character, and how she coexists with this intense power.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
About two years.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
Those moments of inspiration, when the muse decides to pay a visit and the writing just flows or a wonderful plot idea pops into your head.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
Not having enough time to write J

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
Someone who died mysteriously, like Marilyn Monroe, so I could find out if she really committed suicide or was murdered.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
I’m borderline OCD about tossing decaying food items, so whatever old item still in there is probably meant to survive the apocalypse, like butter or something.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
Two more books in the Necromancer Series and a pirate historical or two. I’m waiting for that horror story idea to come to me.

A Montana town where no one is who they seem....

Everything about runaway heiress Ainsley McLeon screamed trouble—from her luscious midnight locks to her Louboutin-clad toes. Yet sexy, stoic bar owner Luc couldn’t deny the instant connection he felt to the tempting stranger…or the long-dead feelings she evoked. She could work in his pub until her truck was fixed but after that she had to leave town for good.

Ainsley traveled with her own emotional baggage and there was no way she'd fall for the bear-tempered Luc...no matter how many passionate nights she spent in his bed or how safe she felt in his muscular arms. Can these two opposites find love in the middle of a blizzard, or will Luc's darker side and Ainsley's past catch up with them?

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
The idea actually came from my publisher Liz Pelletier. She called me out of the blue one day and said, “I want a book about shifter who owns a bar, and the woman who falls in love with him.” She had a lot of the book planned out, and it made it easy for me to jump right in. I made it my own, but her original concept and idea for the characters is still there.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
Um, I’m embarrassed to say, it only took me about two days to write that first super messy draft. That book fell out of my head and onto the keyboard. I will say it took a couple of months and several round of edits to get it where it is today. But it really did fall out of my head.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
Well, picking one thing is difficult. I use writing as therapy. If I have issues, I work them out in books. And I love losing myself in those worlds.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
Revisions and editing. I don’t mind them, but they aren’t my favorite.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
Oh, my goodness. That is a tough one. My day job as a TV and Film critic, means I come in contact with a lot of celebs. I’ve met some nice ones through the years. I think I have more of a jones for authors. I interviewed Neil Gaiman once for his appearance (do you call it that for animation) on “The Simpsons.” I love his work. I bet he’d be fun for a day, and he knows a lot of cool folks.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
I’m out of the country, and left my guys home alone. There are probably green things growing in there right now. We’re really bad about salad dressings. I swear they age faster than the speed of light.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
I have several books coming out this year. None of which I can discuss yet. Stay tuned. (Smile)

 To Who Ever This May Concern;

I wish I could tell you the contents of this book were purely fictional. That I, Adela Arthur, was just a normal sixteen year old from Portland; that dragons, giants, elves and mermaids were just myths. Legends shared from crazy old grandparents to crazy old grandparents around campfires; after all that is what I used to believe.

I never would have thought they lived on the other side of our mirrors in a world called Cielieu. But they do…

I never would have thought there were humans, better known as Volsin that lived among them with the ability to create light from a single thought. But there are…

I never would have thought I was one of them… But I am…

I am the last Arthur and I was brought to the human world after a Volsin, filled with greed, began to strip the light from our kind.

The human world was supposed to be a safe haven… but he’s found us and the only way to stop him is to go back to Cielieu and begin training as a student in the Elpida Castle of Light.

Like I said I wish the contents of this book were purely fictional and not my life…

~Adela Arthur

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
I came up with the idea of this book because a few girls I babysat for said they wanted to go on adventure like Harry Potter and Percy Jackson. It started off as a small adventure for them and ending up into a story about a world behind mirrors. Cielieu…that name took me forever to think of but I tired to think of what would match a world filled with light and some how that came to mind. I wish I had a better story for it.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
About a month and a half

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
The fact that rules and laws do not apply! I can just live in my own world.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
Not being able to put into words whatever it is I’m trying to say. It’s like all the words are in my mind but sometimes I just can’t get them on to the page.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
The Queen of England the amount of history that is available about her own family is so cool to me.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
Pasta I made 3 nights ago. You never know when MTV cribs may ask to see the inside of my home/ fridge.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
Hopefully a lot! I want to write for many genre and tell as many stories as possible!

Blaze Ignites by JL Madore‏

September 2009 marked the beginning of my journey with writing paranormal/fantasy romance novels. After spending a year hiatus in Panama with my family, I returned to Ontario relaxed and ready to let stories flow from my mind onto the page. The only problem was—I didn’t know a thing about the craft of writing.

Almost four years later, after dozens of workshops, reading hundreds of books, joining a writing community and two critique groups, I've won two writing scholarships and believe I've got a handle on what I’m trying to say and the voice with which I want to say it.

Currently, I am working on the five book Scourge Survivor Series as well as a darker, erotic/romance paranormal series currently called Watchers of the Grey.

Blaze Ignites blends strong, clever women and tough, sexy men in a fast paced, volatile cocktail of action, seduction and wicked humour.

"Destiny my ass." Jade Glaster refuses to believe the Fates rule her life. Orphaned after an attack by Scourge soldiers, a young Jade vows never to be powerless again. Once grown and strong, wielding the affinities of fire and healing, Jade protects innocents as an enforcer for her world's elite policing agency—The Talon.

When an emissary mission to reinstate a race of exiled Elves brings Galan into her life, Jade finds herself overwhelmed by new passions, some welcome, some not. Although Galan's antiquated views on women offend her to her heated core, when the Scourge attack his family, she helps him navigate the outside worlds he knows nothing about—the magical Realm of the Fair and, stranger still . . . the modern streets of Toronto.

Through their sensually charged pursuit of justice, Jade discovers that when dealing with the Fates—destiny is never random.

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
My family and I lived in Central America for a year and the only book we had with us at first was my teenaged daughter's copy of a new release her friend had told her about—Twilight.

I've told this story before, but lying in a hammock in our piece of Panamanian rainforest, I read, re-read and re-re-read it. Eventually, I started thinking how differently the story could go. If I wrote it, my Edward would say this . . . In my book, Bella wouldn't be so . . . . And so it continued until I'd made up my own characters and had a rough framework of a story.

It still was just a bunch of jumbled ideas in my head until we returned to Ontario in August of 2009. Then, in my depression of having to return to the hustle and bustle of modern life, I began writing down my story. I have always loved Elves, so that was a no brainer, and the rest of the characters just introduced themselves and took their places. Mostly coming to me in dreams.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
Well, the idea phase was that year in Panama, then I started getting things down on paper when we returned home in September 2009. By May 2010 I gave in and bought a laptop. Then, when it was all down, I took it to a writer friend of mine, Heather, and said, 'I wrote a novel, but the problem is—I don't know how to write. I need to take some classes.'

Cue the joining of 'The Writers' Community of Durham Region' (the best writers' group imaginable), the taking of classes and workshops, the starting up of a critique group and then came the rewrites. All in—it took about four years.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
I have two: first, there's the moment when you've been writing along and it's flowing and moving well and all of a sudden something you're putting down on the screen ties in perfectly to another bit you put in waaaay back in the novel. You didn't make a conscious decision and never thought about how the two ideas would link up, but it comes together perfectly, right when you need it. It's like, 'No way. OMG, that's so cool.' It doesn't happen all the time, but it's honestly the biggest high I get as a writer.

I also love feedback from readers. Of course my favorite is good feedback—I love when readers connect with my characters and are carried away by my story, but even critical feedback gets me excited. If it's quality criticism, it gives me room to grow, ways to improve and reach more people with what they're looking for. I love that.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
Being stuck in edits with deadlines and not actually writing anything new for weeks. I have to organize my time better. I feel so drained and down when I haven't killed anyone or made anyone squirm for a few days let alone weeks. My fire seems to get lost in edits sometimes.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
That's a tough one. If it's only for one day, my first thought is Miranda Kerr, because then I'd be a supermodel and married to Orlando Bloom—who, just between us—I have been in love with since he first appeared as Legolas Greenleaf. Did I mention I have a thing for Elves? But beyond the beauty, jet-setting life, wealth and hubby hotness, what would that give me?

Nothing any better than I have now: wife, mother, friend, sister. I'd be happy to return to my life.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
Funny, I'm not even really sure what it's called. Before I quit working to write full time, one of the ladies I shared my days with gave me a home-made, Trinidadian chutney for my husband to try. It's sealed in a mason jar and supposed to be extremely spicy, because he loves spice. Well, it got pushed to the back of the fridge, moved to the new house, pushed back again, and I don't think he's ever tried it. I know it's the oldest, because she gave it to me before I quit and that was February 2012, so it's at least eighteen months old if not older.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
Tons. The Scourge Survivors have at least four more novels to come—three already written and in edits. And then, right now, I'm working on an edgier Paranormal Erotic Romance series which already has some interest from an agent. Fingers crossed. I've also got an outline for a third series I'm quite excited about and I've got an Erotica novel about living in a Panamanian rainforest sketched out too. I just don't have enough hours in my days.

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
A) Hi, Pembroke. Thanks for this opportunity to share with your audience. Since growing up with Jay Anson’s landmark work, The Amityville Horror, I have always been intrigued by haunted house stories. We can debate whether Anson’s account is an elaborate hoax or not, and it very well may be; however, it definitely is one of the most frightening stories that one can ever read. I have always wanted to try my hand at one, but wanted to wait until I thought I had something that really excited me. Next, I love heard rock power ballads and good tear-jerker films. Once I realized that I could put these ingredients together, the story really began to write itself.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
A) Start to finish it only took a year. I have an eleven hour day job, so it isn’t easy to find the time necessary to dedicate to writing projects. On the other hand it was only in the 70k territory, unlike my two vampire books that were well over 100k.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
A) My favorite thing about telling these stories is the fact that I am creating something out of nothing and getting amazing responses from them. It doesn’t get much better than that.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
A) The least favorite thing would be the promotion. The writing community has been great – so encouraging and supportive - so the part about meeting new people is a wonderful perk. It just isn’t a lot of fun trying to sell oneself all the time. What makes you want to quit isn’t the thought that the writing isn’t good enough, but that the competition is so stiff. There are literally hundreds of thousands of books out there, vying for the attention of the reading masses.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
Hmm? That’s a tough one. My first thought was a desire to be a famous author like Stephen King or someone else that I grew up with who helped to shape the writer I am today. I would want to be them in order to see what it would look like to finally “make it”. Yet, it wouldn’t be my dream, would it? It wouldn’t be my path. We need to experience our own road, wherever it may take us.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
*laughs* God, really? Thankfully there isn’t anything that old in there. I’ve cleaned out my share of refrigerators and that old stuff isn’t pretty. I’m sure it’s a jar of peanut butter or jelly or something like that. Yuck! Now I’m worried. Lol!

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?

A) Truthfully, I’m not sure as of yet. I’m hoping to heavily promote Seeing Ghosts for the remainder of this year before deciding what’s next. I have book three in my crossover vampire series that people have been asking me about. I could do that. However, I have been very pleased with how well this paranormal romance turned out and may want to try another. I also have a serial killer story with a heavy twist that I want to work on at some future point. Although I only take on writing projects every year and a half or so, my mind is always working story ideas. It rarely rests. I’m sure that I’ll be itching to start something before this year is over. We’ll see.

Obsession by Sharon Buchbinder

I’ve been writing fiction since I was in high school and have the rejection slips to prove it.

After I graduated with a BA in Psychology and no job, I realized my dreams of working in the attic writing great prose would have to take a back seat to the simple pleasures of eating, drinking, and having a roof over my head.

Fast forward a few decades, and I had a career path that would make all but the kindest say, “What were you thinking?” After working in health care delivery for years, I became a researcher, then an academic. I had it all– a terrific, supportive husband, an amazing son, and a wonderful job. But that itch to write (some call it obsession), kept beckoning me to “come on back” to writing fiction. I spent one whole month away doing nothing but writing fiction, the first of many drafts of my first novel.

My genres include horror, mystery, romance and weird blends of the three. For a sampling of my work (fiction and nonfiction), click on “Stories and Links“.

When not attempting to make students and colleagues laugh, I can be found herding cats and dogs, golfing, deep sea fishing, or writing.

Book Trailer

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
As a child, I was aware of things that other people did not sense, and was often punished for "telling stories." When I was 15, I was electrocuted by a clothes dryer and had a near death experience (NDE). At the time, I didn't know what that was. All I knew was that in college I was fascinated with paranormal research and NDEs and participated in studies while I was at UCONN. Even as I began to write this book, I wasn't convinced I personally had an NDE. Upon reflection and conversations with Julia Barrett, I realized this story I was writing was founded on my own NDE. Not all NDEs are the same. I don't recall seeing an angel; I do recall a great sense of peace and being very unhappy to be pulled back to this world by my deputy angel, the police officer who gave me CPR.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
Over two years of research, writing, rewriting, and revisions went into Obsession.
Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
I'm a research junkie. With a PhD in Public Health, it is easy for me to fall down the rabbit hole of research and emerge a day later triumphant with one nugget that is PERFECT for my story. At times, my husband has to remind me to stop researching and "get back to writing." He's right!

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
I hate waiting for feedback. I crave it. Whether it is my husband's (he's my alpha reader and reads each page of each book many times) or my beta readers (Tamara Hoffa and Joya Fields for this book), I am on pins and needles until I get their input. Once the book is published, I pine for reviews. Whether it is good, bad, or indifferent, reviews are feedback. They tell me what worked or didn't work for readers. I take that information and use it in my next book.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
The Queen of Sheba because I'm writing her story now and I'd love to be in her head for one day to find out what really happened on her famous visit to King Solomon.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
I have a box of baking soda with no date on it. Guess I'd better get some new ones today! LOL!

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
I'm about one-third of the way through a historical fantasy. Structured like Katherine Neville's The Eight, where the reader goes back and forth between historical and contemporary times, my work-in-progress, Kiss of the Virgin Queen, takes place in the spaces between history, religion, and the paranormal. Kiss of the Virgin Queen explores that space and the effects of the epic romance between King Solomon and Queen Makeda that continue to ripple down the centuries to their descendant, Homeland Security Special Agent Eliana Solomon, aka the Jinni (Genie) Hunter.

To Who Ever This May Concern;

Finding Courage

It's about that time in my query process when I start to lose hope.  I've sent out 34 and have received 12 rejections.  In the scheme of things, that's not a huge amount of queries to send out.  It's barely scratching the surface.  However, there aren't a lot of agents who deal with my genre (YA paranormal fantasy), so I don't have hundreds of people to query.

I'm really trying not to let this get me down.  In fact, I'm trying to immerse myself in my research and focus on the nonfiction book.  That is going really well, by the way.  Chapter 1 is fleshing out nicely, and I have interviews, books, and movies lined up for the rest of the book.  I have a clear plan laid out in front of me, and that makes me very happy.

But at the same time, I feel guilty for "neglecting" The Appeal of Evil.  I feel like I should be doing so much more to get it out into the world and into the hands of readers.  Then, I remind myself that I still have a month or so before I hear from the most recent agents I sent my query to.  While I'm not overly optimistic, it at least gives me some time before I need to make a decision about what to do next.

On top of that, remember when I told you about the webinar I took?  Well, when I queried Jim McCarthy, I told him I had taken the course and how much I appreciated his insight.  He said he would be more than happy to critique my query letter and first 500 words.  I'm waiting to hear back from him so I can tweak the letter and send it out to a few more agents.  That made me Snoopy dance.  It still might not land me an agent, but at least I tried.

I'm not trying to be a downer when I say I'm losing hope.  If an agent doesn't want the book, that's fine.  I have tons of other options.  I need to let the guilt go and remind myself that it's all right if the book doesn't have a home while I work on something else.  I don't have to have closure to move on.  It will come in time!

Will Trevor come around in time to rescue Lindsey and save her from shifting into Smoke’s pack, and will she even want back with Trevor after spending so long apart?

Warning: Sizzling HOT! Lots of two-somes, three-somes, even more-somes, stimulating, arousing, and positively natural…or supernatural.

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
Hello Pembroke – thank you so much for this opportunity to visit your place – I appreciate your time and your excellent interview questions:)

Okay – first Q, there were many things that wove together inspiring me to write Savage Smoke. It started with Book 1, Staring Into the Eyes of Chance. A good friend of mine (fifty-something years old) lost her husband and found out about his years of philandering at the funeral. She has always been a wildlife advocate and shares her property with many four legged and feathered friends.

I pulled on these to get me started with the heroine. The Werewolf part and the Investigation Agency are two of my life-long favorites, so blending it all together just happened;) Savage Smoke is the continuing story…

Q) How long did it take you to write?
SS seemed to take me forever. I struggled with the ending…it seems the rogue villain of the story refused to die, stole my mind and my pen, and held me hostage for months on end. When I finally succumbed to the possibility Smoke might actually be able to pull off redemption, the ending came to me swiftly…but still, it took eighteen months to go through the entire process – beginning to publication.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
I love being flexible with my writing time, and the fact I can do it anywhere;)

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
Without a doubt it’s the promoting and marketing involved right before and then after the book releases. It takes a lot of time, research, and guest posts;) It feels like I have to put on my big girl pants to make it happen, and they aren’t very comfortable.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
Wow, this feels like a stump the star question *grins* I would want to wear maybe Kate Douglas’ shoes for a day – someone who I love to read, writes in a genre similar to mine, and she’s very successful. Maybe I could pick up some good traits to keep me on track:)

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
Oh, wow…no you’re hitting below the beltline *giggles* In fact, I had to go look…and it is some Cherry Butter jelly my daughter gave me months ago, but it was already a couple years old when she gave it me (unopened). I’m a pushover for the unusual…not afraid to try anything once…well, except for raw meats – eew.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
Smoke -n- Bliss, Book 3 in the LIIA series. Hopefully Smoke comes full circle in this book, making the ultimate sacrifice to redeem his self. I’m also working on a few shorts to submit for anthologies. There’s another book shouting to be written – I started it and never finished – more of an erotic fantasy/paranormal romance. Then I also started another shifter type story – it began as a short story, but this kept moving forward into more intricate sub-plot threads…so I’m thinking it will be a novel and maybe even another series.

Thank you again for having me…your interview questions were quite unique:)

In the year 2091, humans have lost the ability to dream. After decades of financial and social depression, dreams and aspirations have become a recessive gene—an impossibility of the modern mind.

Greece is one of the worst social and economic disaster zones, and all hope of a better future has been lost. One young man, Nikos, discovers that he is not like everybody else—there is something different about him.

Believing that he may be going crazy, he soon discovers that he is the only person in Greece who has inherited the ability to dream. Time is running out as the government continues its tirade of corruption and suppression against the people, and Nikos must find a way to teach others how to dream so that once more society can free itself from the shackles of mental slavery.

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
The mystery and power of dreams to compel ordinary people to do extraordinary deeds. I wanted to give readers something out of the ordinary that would really get them thinking about life, how short it really is, and how important it is for us to live in a way that will do justice to our desires.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
3 months.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
My favourite part about writing is when you are first starting, and a surge of creativity hits which ties the opening sentence to the very last one. Getting on a roll and powering through passages is also exhilarating.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
I enjoy all aspects of writing. The only potentially difficult part is editing, as it’s easy to miss things, no matter how many times you read it.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
I’d like to be somebody who is in a position to give foreign aid to Third World countries, and really make a difference.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
The oldest thing in my fridge? I’d say the ice blocks. They’re there, but I never use them. I should probably get rid of them now that you mention it.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
Readers can expect more thought-provoking books, whether they be inspirational/coming of age/magical realism, or thrillers. I always strive to provide a work where even if they don’t enjoy it, they can walk away having gained something from it. Stories are subjective, but if you can make people think long after they’ve read your book, you’ve really made a difference.

Carolyn Holland grew up during the 70’s in the coastal wetlands of North Carolina in a small, rural fishing village. She married right after high school and started her family, in the same community where she grew up. Seeds Of Transition: Book One - The Genesis Project is full of gripping adventure, psychological thrills, and emotional conflict from start to finish.

As the world’s population approaches 10 billion people, and severe weather extremes impact crop and livestock production, the demand for and price of food is rising. The American government, as well as other powerful individuals, find themselves looking for intelligent, albeit unlikely heroes in the world of academia.

Jarod Farra, a professor of agriculture at Cornell University, quickly finds himself at the forefront of both his longstanding dreams, and perhaps, some of his worst fears. Out of the turmoil and fear of an impending international food shortage, a range of characters come together to perform an experiment that will forever change the world as we know it, and provide new hope for generations to come.

Q) What inspired you to write this story?
Well, for me, I would have to say that I have a growing concern for the direction that our agriculture system has taken. Personally, I believe that the influence of big agriculture business is inhibiting necessary advancement in the industry and that a much more sustainable option is available to us. Although very necessary, alternative methods for growing food are not thought to be as profitable. Our governmental policies support the non-sustainable methods we are currently using, and most folks do not even realize the danger lurking behind the door. It was my hope to bring some of that to light and inspire people to think about these issues, because it will be the inspiration of others that brings about the changes that we so desperately need.

Kef and I share a concern for the future of agriculture and the effect we are having on the environment. We were both inspired by Dr. Dickson Despommier’s concept of the Vertical Urban Farm and what it could mean to our future as it could potentially solve several problems simultaneously. We were further intrigued by the fact that even though his rendition of the concept has been around since 1999, it has still not been put to use in any great scale.

It seemed at the time to be a great idea, to take an existing concept and write a fiction work where we explored some of the challenges to vertical farming and overcame them in a setting where its success was crucial to our own future.

In writing Seeds of Transition, it was our hope that through an entertaining fiction work, we might be able to inspire people to think about the future of Agriculture, and to stop and realize, wow…this really is everybody’s problem. While our agriculture system is having a major impact on our environment, our environment is likewise having a major impact on agriculture. I think it is a reality that we are going to have to change the way we grow our food in the very near future.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
We actually started the process last fall. Our discussions and “think tank” meetings and tireless research started in October 2012. By December, we were putting the story together and completed it in the first week of June 2013. It took approximately six months and a lot of work to write it.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
My favorite thing about writing is the free reign to create a world or time exactly the way I imagine or hope that it can be, and the development of characters, villains and heroes alike, who make the story take shape. In Seeds of Transition, the real fun came from solving global food shortages and creating unique, strong leaders who could make this happen. In life, reality, I imagine that it would take these types of people to make the changes that we so desperately need.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
Ah, the hardest part of writing for me would have to be the occasional bout with writers block and meeting deadlines. The creative juices flow freely when there is no pressure, but as soon as I learn that there is a benchmark or a deadline, the ideas seem to escape me.

The only remedy that I have found for this is to walk away for a short time, and allow my mind to wander to other things, give my brain a break so to speak. I am usually able to resume afterwards with fresher ideas and make that annoying deadline, but occasionally, I just have to beg forgiveness for my tardiness.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
I would have to say that I would like to be John Steinbeck for a day. He is my all time favorite author and I would consider it a priceless opportunity to dwell in his mind and experience his creativity if only for one day.

I think he was the most skilled story teller. His characters were real and stayed with me for years; his stories were so well told that they seem like memories of actual events. I have never read another author who could so accurately capture the dynamics of emotion in his writing or have such a profound impact on the reader.

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
Well, I am actually pretty good about keeping up with the fridge and insuring that things don’t stay there beyond their life span however; there is a jar of grain alcohol in there that has been occupying a small space for about six months, it’s there for medicinal purposes.

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
Presently, we are working on the second book in “The Genesis Project” series titled Stems of Discord. All of our favorite characters return and many new ones appear as The Genesis Project continues its quest to reestablish food security and expands its efforts into our water crisis. Our heroes work harder and our villains become bolder.

Roots for Longevity will follow about 6-months later as the third book in the series.

How (Not) to Kiss a Toad by Elizabeth A Reeves‏

Legend has it that Elizabeth A Reeves was born with a book in her hands and immediately requested a pony. Though this story is questionable, it is true that books and horses have been consistent themes in her life. Born in Massachusetts, she was quickly transplanted to Arizona by a professor father and creativity-driven mother, who is the one responsible for saying "If you can't find a book that you want to read, write a book you want to read."

In her spare time, she likes to knit, weave, hatch chickens, and chase after her husband and four sons.

Cindy Eller is a witch with a gift for creating decadent desserts highlighting the exotic and spicy flavors of her native Southwest. However, life isn't always sweet for this magical baker. All her life she's been cursed-- every man she's ever kissed has turned into a toad. Love isn't likely to come her way, she knows.

If that weren't a big enough problem, her 'curse' has come to the attention of the Council of Magic and she may never be able to use her powers.

Enter the perfect man-- handsome, sweet, and loves food just as much as Cindy does. It would seem to be a match made in Heaven, or is it?

Cindy isn't the only one keeping secrets.

With toads, cupcakes, romance, magic and ice cream, life never has time to get dull!

Q) What inspired you to write this story?

I’ve wanted to write a book about a normal everyday witch that anyone could relate to and identify with. I’ve also felt that the Southwest has been rather misinterpreted or underappreciated in the written word—so Cindy Eller was born—a true-to-life Magical baker with a complicated love life.

Q) How long did it take you to write?
I wrote this novel for NaNoWriMo, so I actually managed to get the rough draft finished in one month. It was exhausting and exhilarating to write at that pace. Most of it was written one-handed as my baby was very young at the time and insists that he can never EVER be set down.

Q) What is your favorite thing about writing?
Writing allows me to explore and express myself in ways that I never would be able to in any other setting. Writing is my anchor and sanity.

Q) What is your least favorite thing about writing?
Writing can be difficult and characters capricious. It’s a demanding master. I don’t get to choose my hours. I have to bend to the whim of creativity and be open to the fact that something I just spend weeks on is going to end up in the recycle bin.

Q) If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
One of the little princes in the tower, so I could know definitively what happened to them. Maybe even Anne Boleyn in those last hours so I could be inside of her brain and understand who she was fully and in depth. I am fascinated by historically pivotal figures and events. There are many people that I would love to have the opportunity to meet or just have a chance to pick the brains of (that sounded zombie-ish, didn’t it?) but I’m not sure I would actually want to be any of them for any amount of time… though I wouldn’t mind borrowing Elizabeth Faulkner’s brain for a few hours!

Q) What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
LOL! That would be my attempt at making homemade cheese. It has to be like five years old by now. We’re too scared to try it!

Q) What can readers expect from you in the future?
More Cindy Eller, more Goldie Locke, and some spin-offs of the whole ‘world’ of Cindy Eller. I also have some top-secret projects in the works.

Time is running out for Armend Zogu. The 250-year old family curse on his head will claim his life on his 30th birthday, the winter solstice.

Sofia Palmalosi is just the Strega who can save him. A descendant of a long line of powerful Italian witches, her family’s magic was a gift from the Goddess Diana.

In order to break the curse, Sofia and Armend must connect two pieces of a violin sonata that Armend’s ancestor composed for his forbidden love.

Together they embark on a journey from New York to Sicily, to the ancient ruins of Diana’s Temple and back to New York all the while fighting a battle of magic and wits with a psychopath who wants them both dead and the curse intact.

If the curse doesn’t kill Armend, breaking it just might.

What inspired you to write this story?
I’ve always loved the paranormal and witches are an enigma. They are misunderstood, magical, sexy and steeped in mystery. Everything you need for a paranormal romantic suspense. Being of Sicilian descent, my grandmother would tell us about the Stregas (Italian witches) that lived in her village in Sicily. I’ve read and enjoyed many witch novels about the familiar Wicca or Celtic beliefs and thought a modern day witch practicing the secretive craft of Stregheria would be a interesting twist.

How long did it take you to write?
Almost two years. I did a lot of research. For millennia, Stregheria was hereditary, you had to be born a Strega and their beliefs, practices, etc., were kept within families and not freely given to outsiders. I also took classes on writing fight scenes, magical scenes and creating a villain.

What is your favorite thing about writing?
Going back to the previous answer, I have to say research. I love history so going back in time to see how something originated or happened is thrilling to me. I also like my stories and characters, even though they are paranormal, to be as authentic as possible and I think doing the proper research enables me to do that.

What is your least favorite thing about writing?
Writing sex scenes. Not because I’m uncomfortable, just the opposite. I love a good, sexy story and being in the paranormal romance genre, most love scenes have been written over and over again. I like to try to come up with new and exciting places and ways for my characters to have sex as well as trying to add some humor. We’re all human and we all have mishaps in our everyday life and in the bedroom. It can be a challenge sometimes.

If you could be any famous person for one day, who would you be and why?
Stephen King. I love horror and someday would like to try and write a ‘keep the lights on all night’ scary story. I’d love to get inside Mr. King’s head and see how he looks at the world and where he gets his ideas. The next day when I’m back to myself maybe I could take a shot at writing the next great American horror story. In theory anyway.

What is the oldest thing in your fridge and how old is it?
As of today, because I cleaned out my fridge this week, I can say proudly everything is up to date. But three days ago, in the deep recess of the top shelf, to the left of the mayo and hidden far behind the pickles was a small Tupperware.

While my husband thought I should have called the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta because he believed I might have grown the next great vaccine to save the world, we couldn’t get past the gooey, smelly glop with the blue/green fur budding from the top, so we threw it away. I don’t know what it was or how long it had been there, but I’m guessing a really long time.

What can readers expect from you in the future?
I’m working on a novella and a sequel to my debut novel Twin Flames. I just finished a paranormal short holiday story to submit to an anthology, and I’m developing a new character named Spookie Millane that I’d like to make into a series.
